Right at the heart of Discomania, Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff reached into their tape vault, and pulled out the collection of material that formed "Disco Champs". Released as ZX-34728 in the Summer of '77, it recompiled the best dance tracks from the previously-released "Trammps" album and added a handful of previously-unissued masters to entice those who already owned that earlier album. Tom Moulton, who had mixed portions of "Trammps" (and, indeed, the extended versions of the group's Buddah sides) was brought back into Sigma Sound to freshen up same of his previous wonk and to totally remix athen titles - a selection of the earlien mixes, as mentioned above, are included hene tor companions - and the end results proved to be as excellent as you would expect. Of the new tracks, the wistful, floating "Promise Me" was the best received in clubland. Boasting one of Jimmy Ellis' best-ever vocal performances, it's hard to understand just why it had been canned in the first place. The other two 'new' tracks Ronnie Baker's "Just Say The Word" and a group Jam called "Oh Was Hey" ware also too good to be forgotten.
Enjoy the fabulous mighty Trammps again on ''Disco Champs in the mix''
